Holy. How long did this take!? I'm curious, why are there some areas that look upsampled in detail 1?

P.S. You do know that they strongly suggest to only upload one image per day in the FAQ, don't you? ;)

Thanks for the votes, all of you. I appreciate very much.

I'm terribly sorry about posting so many at once. I'm new here and although I read the faq, I don't remember having seen that rule about posting one piece a day. Well, thank you for pointing that out to me and be sure it won't happen again: in the future I will post only a piece at any given day. My apologies.

As for this piece in particular, it took me 2 weeks, with very little sleep. It was a rush job, as they say. The reason you see upsampled elements is because it was a lower-resolution collage at first that I painted over. The upsampled part are the parts I missed :) - but I swear, after spending more than 12 hours a day on details, I couldn't see clear anymore, and that one eluded me. I'm sure there are other parts that I missed...

As a matter of fact, *if* you're interested, I am actually selling a limited edition of this poster one my site (www.tegehel.org).

Again, thank you for the critique,

Best,

C.

Very nice! How's the CD?

Janeane Garofalo always raves about this band on Air America, and I generally like her taste in music.

Thank you again, folks :)

Drlnker, please refer to my previous post for the answer (the big one in the middle).

jfrancis: although I love Jeneane Garofalo, I don't know anything about her taste in music. Personally, I never heard of the band before they contacted me, and now, I'm a fan :) I can't say much about the previous album(s), since I haven't yet heard them (I'm a slow fan), but as for this release, I think it's fantastic. Most reviews I've read rave about it, and say that this album is an awesome step T.O.D. took towards making their sound richer, fuller, better. I really like the pseudo-operatic/orchestral approach they took in this album (but then again, it is something I like in general.)

I understand you can listen to samples at the Amazon link you gave. You can also read the reviews there, or google for reviews.

As for me, this album's 5/5.

Cheers,

C.

PS: Case in point, the first review on Amazon says: "The first thing you notice is the unique medieval tapestry-style cover art, but you quickly forget it as the music begins."

Heh!

surprise surprise... a little bit of goya eh?

-> http://www.xenusion.com/pics/temp/jacktheripper.jpg

well at least you changed the colours abit at this case...
im just to lazy to search around for the other originals but i can easily see
slightly changed stuff from hironimus bosch and others there.

but the most important crime is the fact that you didnt even managed to make the single parts fit together.
the lighting is different for every part of the puzzle and the size... some objects are to small, others to big...

tegehel

 05/11/05 @824

thanks all :)

No, I didn't use clone stamps. I repainted over a pre-existing collage.

No, it's no surprise really. Actually, pretty much the ENTIRE painting is based on parts of famous masterpieces, or otherwise relatively well-known pieces. The band (trail of dead) - Conrad Keely in particular - wanted it that way and they supplied the underlying canvas (or patchwork, if you wish).

As I mentioned in a previous message, the collage was made first, and believe it or not, went through the company's LAWYERS to make sure that the copyrights were adequately taken care of. I had to make sure that certain critical parts would not be a copy of the original, but an underlying source.

The whole point of the idea behind the collage, if I understand the idea of the band correctly, is to convey a sense of chaos and war through the Human evolution (as it was suggested in this thread), in addition to the band's title reference "...And you will know us by the trail of dead...". On top of that, the album's title, "Worlds Aparts" is also represented in this mosaic of worlds, arts, genre, time periods, etc...I can't take credit for the idea, it's Conrad Keely's, and I personally think it's #$@%! brilliant.

xeN: You can call it a crime, or whatnot, I don't care as I don't see it that way at all. It's an homage, an epic visual poetry. If you have serious issues with it, though, talk to the band, and/or the music company, they provided the material, the idea and the legality of it all.

I find it peculiar, though, that you don't see through that.

ps: I won't debate this issue here anymore, I'm not here for that. If you really want to argue more, email me and we can talk.
